INTA Survival Guide from a Show Veteran

Apr 20, 2017 3:03:45 PM

I've attended INTA more times than I'm willing to admit. It is always one of my favorite events and this year is taking place in my favorite city...Barcelona! The show can be overwhelming due to the size and all the things going on. I came up with a few pointers. I hope to see you there! If you'd like to meet up with me, please request an appointment

INTA Annual Meeting 2017

DO Attend the INTA Annual Meeting Orientation and Reception

This is a must for first-time attendees and new INTA members. At the Orientation you can meet INTA leaders and staff, become acquainted with colleagues, and discover how to take advantage of INTA member benefits. The reception gives you a chance to meet other first-time attendees in a less crowded setting than the larger general receptions.

DO Wear Your Name Badge

Even if you have met the person before, most people understand if you don’t remember their names right away. For this reason, the badges are very helpful. Your name badge is also your ticket to all INTA Annual Meeting functions and events, so don’t leave your hotel room without it.

DON’T Solicit

There is a longstanding tradition that there should be no commercial solicitations at the Annual Meeting except from exhibitors in the Exhibition Hall. Please honor this tradition.

DO Attend Exhibits

The Exhibition Hall features service providers that offer valuable products and services to the intellectual property community, including books, software, searching and other services. While you are there, visit the INTA Booth, which is also located in the Exhibition Hall. Yerra will be in Booth F28!

DO Attend Receptions and Parties

INTA provides many social opportunities for you to meet others in your field. In addition to the INTA receptions and parties, a number of members host their own networking events. Bring your business cards and have fun.

DON’T Overdo It

Partake in everything that the INTA Annual Meeting has to offer, but, as the saying goes, “Everything in moderation.”

DO Network

Not everyone loves to network, but INTA is the perfect place to find out just how fun and productive it can be. You will meet interesting people and learn a lot by not being shy. Go out and meet everyone you can. You never know where your next job, client or partner might come from!
