Recently, Yerra sponsored a panel discussion and networking event with the ACEDS London chapter about the EU General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR. Our own Will Wilkinson participated in a panel moderated by Chris Dale, one of the UK’s leading voices on eDiscovery (or eDisclosure as it is known in the “Queen’s English”). The session took a look at a hypothetical company that was facing sanctions due to a lack of preparation for GDPR. The regulation takes effect in May 2018, and companies were given two years notice to prepare. The panel addressed what this hypothetical company could have done to better prepare and avoid issues, as well as what they need to do now that they are faced with violating GDPR.
Yerra is focusing heavily on GDPR in 2017. Not only for our own preparations but also to help our clients better understand the nuances of the regulation and prepare for its launch. We are helping clients undertake “GDPR Readiness” assessments and administering an industry survey called the GDPR Reality Check that will help companies benchmark readiness. It is important to note that the GDPR does not only impact European companies. Any company that handles data related to an EU citizen will need to prepare. We recently created this infographic to help explain GDPR basics.
We hope this information is helpful as you countdown to 25 May 2018!
